A Pictures Worth a Thousand Words

Sometimes, pictures are better than words. How do you describe technical aspects of a project to someone who may not be familiar with them, or explain the sheer scope and size of work being performed on a job site? It’s not unusual for some projects to take us way outside the city limits, and into some really remote but beautiful places. Pictures were being taken of some of these sites, but generally stayed within our internal departments. So we asked the question, “how do we collect these photos so we can share them and use them in telling stories about the projects we’ve worked on?”
Out of this question, the Monthly Photo Contest was born. Every month we request that employees submit their project pictures to our marketing department. The top four are presented to the entire company, and votes are submitted to name the “Top Photo of the Month.”

25,000 Miles.
That’s the circumference of the earth.
It’s ten times the distance across the United States.
It’s also the approximate amount of access roads owned and maintained by one of our highly valued clients; the Bonneville Power Administration (BPA).
Can you imagine? Twenty-five-thousand-miles. It’s mind boggling.
And guess what?

As a Northwest firm, we’re no strangers to long, cold winter months. But every once in a while, our projects take us to faraway places where the sun shines year-round. Last week, a few lucky surveyors traveled to Kauai, Hawaii. It was mostly for work, but let’s be honest—there’s a certain level of enjoyment added to a day’s work when it happens to be at one of the most beautiful places on earth! It goes to show that our surveying team loves to find interesting ways to use their expertise—and in this instance, our work for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) landed some of our skilled employees in Kauai.
