This past Thursday we invited all employees to bring their brood into the office to see a snapshot of MacKay Sposito and all of the important things their parents do at work each day. 18 children attended the event and were able to take part in a variety of activities.
The first stop was a security checkpoint visit to Rob Suksdorf for a shiny new identification badge that alerted everyone to who they were and, just as importantly, who they belonged to if they got separated from their parent. They were then invited to visit me in the conference room to participate in video interviews that they got to watch at the company lunch later that day. The videos were especially entertaining as they tried their best to answer questions such as “Who is your mom or dad?” and “What do they do at work?” More than one interviewee only knew their parent’s name as “mommy” or “daddy,” and most weren’t sure exactly what their parents did at work all day.
After some time exploring their parent’s offices, everyone met back in the Humanity conference room for a presentation by Damon Webster about what we do at MacKay Sposito and the many different career paths that make this company such a well-oiled machine. After Damon’s presentation they broke up into activity pods. The kids got to compete in filing competitions, check out the parts that make up the inside of a computer, and build structures out of spaghetti and marshmallows. While most built bridges and towers, one little girl told me that she was building a replica of Gary Folkerts because “he’s really tall.”
We anticipated that everyone would appreciate an activity that allowed them to stretch their legs and explore the office, so Laura Piltz organized a fun scavenger hunt that allowed our miniature visitors to gather items from each department to take home as prizes. The scavenger hunt included a stop at the front desk for a sweet treat from our sweet Administrative Assistant Jeanie, a visit to accounting to receive their very own invoice, and a final stop in the conference room to get funny photo booth pictures.
The next exciting component of the day was a trip outside for a chance to see a drone demonstration with Chris Sherby, and be part of another video for the day. The kids waved at the drone as it flew up 100ft in the air and circled the grounds, finally resting at their feet in time for them to hop back inside for lunch.
Our pizza party lunch was made extra special with a fun round of Bingo and the drawing of our 2nd Golden Gratitude Raffle Ticket winner for the Disneyland trip for a family. Rob Palena’s children, Bennett and Peyton, helped us out by drawing the winning raffle ticket for Mike Rossetti. Congrats Mike!
We enjoyed having our pint-sized visitors in the office for the day and hope that they all want to come work for MacKay Sposito some day!
