2014 has been a year of unprecedented growth for MacKay Sposito. But last week the Vancouver office went the opposite direction by holding the first annual MacKay Sposito Mini Golf Tournament.
And when we say mini, we’re serious.
The Miniature Book of Miniature Golf is a 6-inch by 6-inch coffee table book that just happens to contain a 9-hole miniature golf course. This is no walk in the park, either – the course features sand traps, water hazards, shrubbery, and even a Sphinx to cause havoc.
Ten brave competitors tested their skills on the course over the lunch hour. While the course was tiny, it still felt like real golf: there were furrowed brows, sweaty foreheads, and even some expletives! At the end of the hour Daniel Teran and Zack Martin were tied for lowest score at 45. So in addition to our first ever tournament we also held our first ever playoff.
In the spirit of true competition, the playoff was held on Hole 6: The Hedge Maze, easily the toughest on the course. Zack struggled to work his way through the maze and wound up with a score of 12. The door was open for Daniel, who wasn’t going to give in even though Zack is his boss.
Daniel started well, but then disaster struck when he knocked the ball off the page, incurring a one-stroke penalty. Somehow he recovered and ended up sitting 10 with a straight shot to the hole. No one had holed out in one stroke all day, but Daniel proved his mettle by draining it in a single shot and claiming the title of 2014 Mini Golf Champion.
Since the course is portable, we may take this event on the road if there’s interest. So start honing your putting skills, because next year will be here before you know it!
