Last week I had the pleasure to volunteer at our local Toys for Tots facility (Kennewick, Washington).  As a member of the United Way's Young Leader Society, I was asked to support this effort by sorting toys that were either donated or purchased by the local unit.

I have to admit that prior to spending four hours here, I did not realize the level of effort involved for this mission, to make sure every child receives gifts on Christmas.  I learned that over 2,000 families in our area benefit from this incredible campaign.  Locally, hundreds of volunteer sort the toys by age group and price range, then bag them for distribution.

Started by the US Marine Corp Reserves, this program collects new, unwrapped toys each year and distributes them as Christmas Gifts to less fortunate children.  The goal is to provide hope to these youngsters, hope that will assist them in becoming responsible, productive, patriotic citizens.

I appreciate the opportunity to share about this organization. While the campaign is complete for 2014, I look forward to continuing to support it for years to come.
