Community Service - With a Little Help from MacKay Sposito

While most of us were relaxing, barbecuing, and spending time with family and friends over the Memorial Day weekend, a troop of dedicated Girl Scouts led by our own Pam Hoerle sacrificed parts of their holiday to serve their community.

Troop 43828 spent a number of hours over the long holiday weekend working at the Discover Washington Garden at Shadow Lake Elementary School in Maple Valley, WA. The troop had been busy for many months beforehand learning about native plants, soliciting donations, and planning the event. As you can see from the picture to the right, the Garden was in desperate need of care, and these young girls and their parents gave it the TLC it deserves, and more.

The cleanup and revitalization of the Discover Washington Garden was the troop’s Bronze Award project, which is the highest honor a Girl Scout Junior can receive. Over the Memorial Day weekend, the troop pulled weeds, installed landscape fabric, planted a variety of native plants and trees (the majority of which were donated), and spread five yards of cedar wood chips. The results of their efforts are truly startling!

MacKay Sposito was proud to play a small role in this project via a donation from our Charitable Giving Committee (CGC). The CGC was formed in 2014 to support volunteerism and commitment to local organizations or programs in which our employees have a passionate and on-going involvement within our three areas of corporate giving: Veterans, Children, and Education. Employees can request a donation of up to $500 to support a cause that meets these parameters. A group of employee volunteers reviews each request.

If you’re involved in an organization that could use some assistance via a monetary or non-monetary donation, please fill out a Charitable Giving Funds Request form, which can be found on our internal Sharepoint site under the Human Resources tab.

The CGC has been a great way for MacKay Sposito to support additional organizations that are important to our employees and are doing good work within our communities. Girl Scout Troop 43828 is just one of many examples, and we look forward to adding more to the list.
